Chapter 1 names the landscape: artificial intelligence, blockchain, quantum computing, augmented reality. For engineers, the ability to absorb and anticipate those advancements is critical. So is the ability to lead diverse, interdisciplinary teams through them.
Tools that write more code faster do not close the gap. They make communication, mentoring, and judgment more expensive. Soft skills — communication, empathy, adaptability, emotional intelligence — are how technological solutions actually get implemented.
The ELBTG verbs do not change because the stack did. Elevate, learn, build, transform, grow.
